The best thing about facebook

I admit, I have a new addiction..to Facebook. I join groups, and become a fan of..... on a daily basis. I can send drinks and ihearts with the best of them. You won't catch me at Farmville, fishville, or any other -ville, (ok maybe "margarita-ville"; but not on Facebook.) I have found neighbors and friends from high school and grade school. It amazes me that the entire family is on Facebook. I think everyone should take advantage of this great technology.

With that being said, I had an awesome day yesterday, and I owe it to Facebook.

It all began with a phone call from Theresa, who said, "Guess who I found on Facebook?" "Check 'em out", "I think that's Denny" And a few e-mails later with one awesome young lady and mother by the name of Lori Thornton Trescott......

We had a great "surprise" visit..... on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon at the farm...

We rode every tractor.... saw every cow....took a lot of pictures....

We were very busy, exploring, catchin' up, and just spending time with a great family....

Did I mention that we rode "every" tractor?

And had a great day......... with this family......... Dennis, Lori and Brendon Trescott.... and Maureen and Bill......

Thanks to this young lady ..........

Who was brave enough to respond to an e-mail on Facebook, from some family named "Trescott". Thanks, you guys are awesome!

Happy Valentines Day!

This is an excerpt from a letter written by Helen Woodhall, from California. I came across this in a magazine along time ago and have kept it. I'll read it every once in awhile, just as a reminder. I thought it would be appropriate to share for Valentines Day. It's titled "How will I know?" and it is written to her granddaughter.

My dear granddaughter,

I told you the other day that I hope for you and the man you marry the kind of love that your grandfather Woody and I had. You asked me, "How will I know when it's that kind of love?"

The love I'm talking about doesn't depend on beauty, passion or romantic settings. It moves from physical attraction to committment-body, mind, heart. My marriage to Woody was not plain vanilla ice cream. We both made many mistakes, many sacrifices.

...Woody wasn't the romantic sort, but he did bring me flowers- wrapped in newspaper. Once he arranged a bouquet in a vase for our 34th anniversary a week before he died. This is love.

He always kept my car in prime condition. He helped me around the house if company was coming-and not because he cared that much how the place looked but because he knew I cared. He wasn't a dog lover but he let me have Pierre. When I'd go on about how wonderful Pierre was, running to meet me, Woody would say he'd run to meet me to if all he had to do was lie on the front steps all day. He held me close when I cried the day Pierre had to be put to sleep. This is love.

Love is not always glamorous, but it will help you get to the bathroom when you're sick. Love means only one of you can be crazy at a time.

The wonderful thing about love is that it embraces without binding. Not all your activities and friends will be the same. Love agrees to disagree on certain subjects. Talk abut everything with your husband. Two of the the most important phrases in a marriage are "I am sorry" and "I forgive you". When you walk out in rage, love follows you , calling, " You can't get away from me".

I hope you will catch your husband looking at you as if you were the only light in his world. When he reaches for your hand for no reason at all, this is love.

Grandma

I don't have any grandchildren, but I do have two beautiful daughters, family and many friends that I hope will find and share that special "love" in their lives. Happy Valentines Day !!!!

School Days, School Days!

It's picture Day!!!

Don't you just love school pictures. Remember the "home hair cuts" the week before school pictures? Remember how excited we used to get at St. Louis, because we didn't have to wear our uniforms that day! Remember when we'd actually be excited to miss class to stand in a single file line in that nasty gym. Remember those cheap little black plastic combs we would get? Remember the class pictures, when you always had to stand next to the stinkiest boy in class, or the one with all the warts or acne or whatever that was? And remember no matter how hard you tried, you always had a goofy smile, or your eyes closed, or that hair out of place, or that look on your face. Remember how excited you were to pass them out the next day, and see how many boys would ask for your picture?

Do you Remember who all these kids are in these school pictures?

Just for something fun, I will donate a gift card to the one Trescott (or descendant thereof) who can guess every person in this picture correctly.

Why my closets are messy!

Since the weather outside is freightful, and our woodburner felt so delightful, I started the task of cleaning out.... rooms, closets, boxes. You name it, I was intending on cleaning it out. THIS weekend! It was happening- no excuses, if I didn't use it within the last six monthes it was going! Look out Goodwill, Salvation Army, Resale Shops, Kennedy, Brooklyn..and even .. (oops, don't tell their mommies!!) First task at hand the livingroom closet. Full of coats, books, wrapping paper, cards and photo albums! PHOTO ALBUMS !!!! UGHHH!!!

And then it happened! (enter background music from your favorite horror movie here) when it was just to dark in the room to see the pictures any more. Just when my tissues were all gone. I realized I had managed to spend 3 hours carefully turning each and every page of each and every photo album in that closet. Obviously, well worth it, looking back at wedding pictures, babies, graduations, christmas's past...

I came upon these two pictures and thought I would share:

I believe this picture was taken in 1987 or 1988. It probably would have been Grandma Trescott's last christmas with us.

This picture was taken in 1982,(I think) at the Christmas party at Grace's house.

Then it hit me! I wonder where all those old family photos of mom's might be??? Most of you remember putting the tables together at Thanksgiving with the blue cups and gold silverware, graduation parties where the boys got dunked in some form of water, backyard Volleyball games, Sunday afternoon picnics, all the weddings, and even a reunion or two.

Needless to say, one phone call and a road trip to Louisville later, and in true "Becky" fashion, I now have, in my possession; One rather large, dusty, banana box full of black and white, and color Trescott memories. (and messy closets) By the way, it was under the bed on the east side, of the west wall, next to the thing dad built.

So you might want to check this blog frequently, I'm just saying.....
